Federal government invests in Black Rapids Lockstation

Tweet ThisNepean-Carleton MP Pierre Poilievre has announced major investments at the Black Rapids Lockstation on the Rideau Canal National Historic Site of Canada.
This announcement is part of the infrastructure stimulus fund of Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
“This investment of up to $1.1 million at the Rideau Canal National Historic Site of Canada will not only help preserve and improve this treasured place, it will also provide local construction jobs and stimulate the economy,” said Mr. Poilievre.
The funding will be used in the reconstruction of the Black Rapids Lockstation. Parks Canada will be using this investment at Black Rapids to replace original timber lock gates, repair masonry lock walls, and upgrade the original hydraulic system for operating the lock to improve reliability and public safety.
These improvements will benefit the site for years to come while providing local jobs and encouraging economic activity that will ultimately lead to the enjoyment of future visitors to the site.
Canada’s Economic Action Plan sets aside $374 million for improvements of facilities and protection of Canada’s national parks and national historic sites.
As a result of these investments, many skilled workers in construction, tourism and conservation sectors will be hired in every province and territory of Canada.
