Groups form liason committee for Minto project
Posted Feb 26, 2010 By Charelle EvelynEMC News - As plans for the new Mahogany development move forward, local community groups are banding together to create a conduit for communication with the developers.
Both the West Manotick Community Association (WMCA) and Manotick Community Association (MCA) have created, by a unanimous vote, the Manotick Liaison Committee.
The eight-member committee is comprised of six members of the WMCA and MCA executive boards and two additional members, who all represent various areas of interest and expertise.
The group will be tasked with working collaboratively with Minto and the City of Ottawa to represent the village's concerns and provide a communication channel between the three parties.
"There is a lot of work to be done and Minto understands that," said Brian Tansley, WMCA president.
However, until the developer has a detailed design plan there is not much to communicate to residents.
"We're starting at square one again," said David Young, MCA president.
When there is something to pass on public meetings will be held, the group said. Public input will also be solicited through the associations' e-mail trees and web sites.
"If things become contentious, we'll call out the troops if necessary," said Mr. Young. "But we should be able to work cooperatively on this."
Despite clashes in the past, he said committee members are ready and willing to move forward with the developer, without any animosity.
