Residents decry lack of debate over bus cuts
Posted Mar 16, 2010 By John NelsonEMC News Supporters of OC Transpo’s route 245 say they were denied their democratic rights when the city’s transit committee voted, during their March 1 meeting, not to reconsider a partial to the route.
“There was no public consultation,” said route 245 rider Andrew Geraghty. “We wanted the right to speak.”
The elimination of part of route 245 between Manotick and North Gower was included as part of the city budget, passed by council in January. A three-quarters vote six of the eight transit committee members would have been required to reopen this issue and, as a result, the city budget.
